Acupuncture Treatment at Acu-Sana

Acupuncture is the medical practice of penetrating the skin with thin hair-line needles. The human body has thousands of acupoints (acupuncture points) which are connected by channels or meridians. These meridians create an energy flow around your body and keep it in balance. Any disruptions to this energy flow is the cause of pain, illness and disease. Working with the acupoints and understanding the cause behind the symptom can improve the energy flow resulting in better blood circulation and therefore increasing oxygen levels.

Booking acupuncture at Acu-Sana starts with a discovery call, followed by an initial consultation with a more thorough assessment & your first acupuncture session. At this session I will recommend a plan of action for further treatments including frequency etc.

Based in a home setting, the practice is committed to providing a warm & relaxing environment where patients feel empowered in their health to heal.

Frequently Asked Questions

I ask my clients to eat well and stay hydrated. It’s important you do not have acupuncture on an empty stomach. It’s important not to have drank alcohol pre and post treatment.

After the treatment ensure you stay hydrated, keep yourself relaxed and if possible have an early night. Sleep assists your healing!

There is no right or wrong on what to wear, it is all dependent on the purpose of your visit. Dress to your comfort.

Our bodies are different and the reasons or causes a patient is coming to see me will differ from person to person. This can be discussed during the consultation, I may suggest one or two sessions a week but the duration of treatment will vary.

There is a stigma attached to acupuncture as generally one thinks needles! And normally needles used in blood tests! The needles used in acupuncture are hair-line and everyone has a different reaction from ‘I can’t feel anything’ to ‘I felt something at first but then nothing’. Our bodies are different and therefore acupoints on the body will also differ from some being more sensitive than others. Please don’t fear the needles instead think about your body healing itself.

Moxibustion is the application of heat on a certain acupoint, sometimes it can be used with needles it is dependent on the treatment. Moxa is dried grass mugwort which has healing properties.

Gua sha is a technique for scraping of the skin with a specialised tool. It releases muscle tension, tissue drainage and the fascia that make up the skin and muscles.

Fire cupping or cupping treatment is used to place cups on the skin to encourage blood flow, especially where patients may have muscle, joint ache and respiratory issues. Fire is used to create the suction and pressure in the cup.
